How it works
Chat as usual
Talk to your AI assistant like you always do. Gustave lives in your new tab and keeps you company.
Tokens become gems
The extension estimates the tokens of each message right in your browser. Every 10,000 tokens make ◆ 1 gem, and your level grows with them.
Dress Gustave up
Spend your gems on 318 pixel items: outfits, colors, backgrounds, decor and pets. Your new tab becomes his little world.

Gems are a one-way, cosmetic currency: earned by chatting, spent on items. They can never be bought or turned into money.
What you can collect
Hats, glasses, capes, dance moves, painted backgrounds, flying things in the sky, pets and decor for the ground: every item is pixel art, and they all mix and match.

What is Gustave?
A free browser extension with a pixel-art companion who lives in your new tab. The more you chat with AI assistants, the more gems you earn to dress him up and decorate his world.
Does Gustave read my conversations?
No text leaves your browser: the extension estimates the number of tokens locally and sends numbers only. The optional Verified mode passes the text through our server to call the official counting endpoint, without ever storing it.
Which AI assistants does it work with?
Gustave works with chatgpt.com · claude.ai · gemini.google.com. These services are named only to state compatibility: Gustave is an independent project, not affiliated with their publishers.
What are gems?
Every 10,000 tokens counted give you ◆ 1 gem. Gems buy items for Gustave and are traded at the Market. They only go one way: you cannot buy them, and they can never be exchanged for money.
Is it free?
Yes. Everything in the shop is earned with gems. A few optional premium items may be sold in euros to support the project: you then buy the item itself, never gems.
Why are counts marked with “~”?
They are estimated in your browser: close to reality, but not official figures from AI providers. Verified mode (optional, with your own API key) gives exact counts and feeds the Verified leaderboard.
Can I share my Gustave?
Yes. Your page at meetgustave.app/u/your-username shows your scene and your collection, with a preview image for social networks, and you can download a profile picture of your Gustave. You can make your page private at any time.
Which browsers are supported?
Gustave is made for Chrome first. Other browsers will follow.
